OWNERSHIP OF LEARNING

“Time = life; therefore, waste your time and waste of your life, or master your time and master your life.”
Alan Lakein

To empower kids is to let them make a decision on what and when they want to learn. We didn't invent it. Many private schools let the kids have a diary. They meet with a guide once a week. It is a guide's role to ask questions like:
- How was math this week? Did you achieve everything you hoped to?/ If it was so easy, do you feel you could challenge yourself more this week? /If it was to difficult, do you want to adjust the schedule for this week?/ Why do you think you were not able to complete it? What could you do differently to accomplish your plan and challenge yourself?

- How was reading this week? Did you finish everything you hoped to do? What was the most interesting thing? Did you do research on your next book you want to discover? How many pages do you plan to read each day? Do you think it's enough for a 30' reading assignment?

- Let's go day by day to figure out the goals and write them down.

- Now let's figure out our journey on the monthly project of your choice. How is progress? Do you feel like you have enough inspiration? Were you able to complete the drawings/ music/ presentation... Let's put it on a time schedule so you stay on track...

The goal is to figure out a happy medium, where kids are not overwhelmed with the number of things to accomplish, but at the same time, they are challenged. So, it might take a few weeks, but once they understand themselves, they are indeed in charge of their knowledge progress.
We believe in John Di Lemme's words:

"ACCOUNTABILITY SEPARATES THE WISHERS IN LIFE FROM THE ACTION-TAKERS THAT CARE ENOUGH ABOUT THEIR FUTURE

TO ACCOUNT FOR THEIR DAILY ACTIONS."
